José Santiago Pérez draws on embodied memory and knowledge, sensorial rigor, and the elastic duration of deep play to investigate the poetics of love, loss, and desire.

His practice moves between performance-based sculpture, performance, and fiber. He has presented work in Chicago at the International Museum of Surgical Science, Defibrillator Gallery, Links Hall, Zhou B. Art Center, Mana Contemporary, and Comfort Station, as well as in performance art festivals in Boston, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.

His curatorial project, MATERIALKINK, is on view at the Leather Archives & Museum through January 2018. He is guest curator for Moving_Image 00:03, a biannual festival dedicated to featuring work by Chicago based artists. Founded by Santina Amato, Moving_Image 00:03 will be hosted in Spring 2018 by Lithium Gallery in the Pilsen neighborhood of Chicago. José received MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He lives and works in Chicago with his husband and their dog.
