José Santiago Pérez draws on embodied memory and knowledge, sensorial rigor, and the elastic duration of deep play to investigate the poetics of love, loss, and desire. His practice moves between craft-based processes, performance-based sculpture, and performance.
His first solo exhibition Flirting with Infinitudes is currently on view at Wedge Projects, Chicago. In late 2018, he will be in a group show at NAPOLEON (Philadelphia) and will present solo work at Ignition Projects (Chicago) in Spring 2019. He has participated in group shows in Chicago at the International Museum of Surgical Science, Defibrillator Gallery, Links Hall, Zhou B. Art Center, Mana Contemporary, and Comfort Station. In addition, he has presented work in Boston, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.
His curatorial project, MATERIALKINK, was exhibited at the Leather Archives & Museum in 2017. He was guest curator for Moving_Image 00:03 at Lithium Gallery in 2018. José received an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He lives and works in Chicago with his husband and their dog.
